If you’re looking to plan your own way or see more of Los Angeles, here are some recommended neighborhoods and tips for our out-of-town guests.

SOUTH BAY: These neighborhoods are in the same region as the venue, and should keep you within about a 30-minute drive. These are beachy, coastal neighborhoods with plenty to see and do. Fun fact: a lot of professional athletes live in this area as it’s close to a number of team training facilities.

Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Torrance, San Pedro, Long Beach (not technically SB, but close enough!)

WESTSIDE: These neighborhoods are north of the airport/10 freeway and range from vibrant art scenes to coastal mountainsides to luxurious enclaves. This region includes the Santa Monica Pier, Rodeo Drive, The Getty Center and Villa, Muscle Beach, Venice Canals, and Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook.

COASTAL ORANGE COUNTY: These beach cities in the next county over offer classic (and some quite posh) California beach options.

Please note—these areas are much further afield, so make sure you’re comfortable with making the haul to the venue!

Things to do

Watch more daring surfers at Huntington Beach Pier (January is actually in peak surfing season)

Shopping at Fashion Island, lunch at Bayside Restaurant (Newport Beach)

Plenty to do here! Just remember that Los Angeles is big and has lots of people—many of them in vehicles—so make sure to build in more time than you think you’ll need for transit. This will also be a holiday weekend, so be sure to secure reservations and tickets ahead of time!

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music: A Brooklyn-based music education organization that serves music lovers of all ages and abilities through their in-house and outreach programs that include a world-class music therapy program. Michele worked here when she first met Erik and continues to support their work today.

The Lovejoy Foundation: A local, no-kill animal welfare organization dedicated to transforming the lives of animals in need. Michele’s advisor has rescued many dogs from here, and we donated Dylan’s toys and food here after he crossed the rainbow bridge.

The Life You Can Save: This organization evaluates and compiles a list of research-backed, “high-impact” charities working on interventions against multidimensional factors of poverty, global health, and development. You can pick from one of their recommended charities or give to one of their Cause Funds, which pool resources to be managed and disbursed to maximize impact in specific areas.

The Good Food Institute: A nonprofit think tank working to make the global food system better for the planet, people, and animals. As an international network of organizations, GFI works to advance alternative proteins to help meet climate, global health, food security, and biodiversity goals.
